Signs of a Worn Brake Pad in an Infiniti in Scottsdale

by techplusaadmin February 28, 2022

The luxury vehicle division of Nissan is known as Infiniti. The Infiniti line up consists of coupes, sedans, and SUVs. Infiniti vehicles can develop problems with the brake pads that can further result in a serious malfunction of the brake system. Ensuring proper care and constant check-up of the brake system of your Infiniti vehicle would ensure the longevity of your vehicle.

One way of ensuring this is the replacement of the brake pads as quickly as it becomes obvious that the brake pads are worn out. The brake pads play a crucial role in the brake system of your Infiniti. Replacing them when the signs of the brake pads being worn appear would go a long way to protect other parts of the brake system.

When to Replace the Brake Pad in Your Infiniti

There are several signs you can watch out for that will let you know it’s time for brake pads replacement.

  • Screeching Noise: If you apply the brakes and hear a high-pitched screeching noise, there is a chance that you need to replace one of your brake pads in your Infiniti. This noise is a result of exposure to the metallic interior of the worn brake pad which comes in contact with the rotor. This noise is intentional. The screeching noise is there to alert you that it is time to replace the brake pad to avoid further damage of metal-on-metal contact.
  • Grinding Noise: When the screeching noise you were hearing suddenly becomes a grinding noise, it means your brake pad is likely to be completely worn out and already causing damage. Without the brake pad, the caliper and disc will collide, scratching the vehicle’s rotor.
  • Brake Dust: The increased amount of brake dust on your Infiniti’s rim is an indication that the brake pad is worn out and needs replacement. An excess amount of brake dust can also be an indication of caliper malfunctioning. Irrespective of what the problem might be, it may demand a visit to a certified Infiniti mechanic you trust.
  • Other Signs include a burning smell, vibration of the steering wheel or brake pedal, your Infiniti pulling to one side while the brake is applied, a longer time to stop than normal, and the dashboard brake warning indicator.

Common Reasons for a Worn Brake Pad

  • Driver Error: This is one of the most common causes of brake pad wear, commonly seen with “two-footed” drivers who use their right foot to press the accelerator and their left foot to press the brake pedal. These drivers most often leave their left foot resting lightly on the brake pedal. Understand that any pressure, no matter how little, on the pedal engages the brake. This puts the pad in contact with the rotor while the vehicle is moving. This wears out the brake pad quickly.
  • Corroded Slide Pins: The caliper should be able to slide smoothly and evenly at all times. If the slide pins are corroded, the caliper may not slide out evenly, leaving it sitting slightly off-center. This results in the rubbing of the brake pad against the rotor constantly leading to the wear of the brake pad.
  • Abnormal Rotor Wear: The rotor in a normal brake system should have a smooth surface with both ends of the rotor having equal thickness. However, when the rotors are grooved, pitted, burnt, or have been significantly worn out, they can create brake pad wear. It can also cause brake pads to crack, wear unevenly, as well as other problems.

The Best Brake Pad for Your Infiniti

It is very important to use original manufactured Infiniti parts on your vehicle. Original Infiniti brake pads are designed for your model and are made to meet the highest standards as the brake pad that was originally installed on your vehicle before leaving the factory. Original Infiniti parts, due to their specificity for your Infiniti model, ensure maximum safety when compared to parts that were made to fit several types of vehicles.
